You cannot catch it or pass it on. Cystic fibrosis occurs when a child inherits two faulty or mutated CFTR genes from their parents, one from their mother and one from their father. Two CFTR stands for cystic fibrosis trans membrane conductance regulator. If only one of the CFTR genes you inherit has a mutation that causes CF, this means you are a carrier but you do not have Cf. If both parents are cf gene carriers, there is a 25% chance their child won't have cf 50% chance, their child will be a carrier, 25% chance their child will have Cf.
