Spacious and sprawling, the picture s suburbs of Southern California extend as far as the eye can see among the Evergreen Valley Suburban home begins to take shape. As we move closer to the speckled landscape of foliage in homes, a large green field in the form of a noble grows closer. The field becomes more prominent and a tiny figure emerges in the middle of it. It's a high school football field, and the figure is a person. The scene cuts to an exterior football field. Sunset time. A smoldering joint fills the frame as we pull out. The embers become red hot, which are quickly followed by a cloud of smoke and large amounts of coughing. We reveal Richard Temple, 16 17 years old, who wears a Kiss T shirt and Levi's with jeans and red Converse shoes, lying with his back to the slanted Earth Richard Look gaze back upon at the tangerine sky as Richard continues to cough from the massive hit that he just took. He doubles down and takes another. After recovering, Richard puts out at the roach on the bottom of his shoe and stands up. He grabs his folder and heads towards the fence of the school. Richard barely wiggles his body through the hole under the fence. He crosses the street and turns down the corner. Richard takes a short walk down a coal the sack, which is right across the street. From the school. He approaches a modest suburban house. At the end of the street, Richard passes a 68 Mustang parked in the driveway and walks up to the porch. Taking a deep breath, he collects himself before casually entering the front door. Richard enters to a blaring TV that features the nightly news broadcast. He peeks around the corner into living room to see his stepfather, Craig, who's in his mid thirties. His balding head persists above a rocking chair as it sways back and forth. The quaint living room consists of a TV modest seventies furniture, along with an empty bird cage As Richard turns to make his way down the hallway, his mother appears from the kitchen, startling him from the side.
