Next on the five o'clock report, you're hiding information from mom and dad. Then you are condoning abortion up to that point. Do you believe that gas prices are too high? The administration is completely out of touch with the American people. Now, let's go to the newsroom. Good afternoon. Welcome to the broadcast. I'm Bill Price, anger and anguish in Buffalo. Our top story at five, the families of the victims of last Saturday's mass shooting at a tops supermarket in Buffalo, New York, speaking out as one of those victims was laid to rest the funeral for 67 year old church deacon Hayward Patterson taking place today. Ty Patterson says she now has to raise their 12 year old son by herself. His heart is broken. And as a mother, what am I supposed to do to help him get through this Robin Harris lost her mother, Ruth Whitfield in the shooting. That racist young man took my mother away. She was my best friend. What am I to do? What am I supposed to do? Now, the alleged gunman and 18 year old from Conklin New York being held without bail on first degree murder charges US Attorney General Merrick Garland, six days ago in Buffalo, 10 people were killed, another three were injured. An entire community was terrorized. Garland says the US Justice Department now investigating the mass shooting is a hate crime tops markets. Meantime announcing today that a moment of silence will take place at all of its stores at 2 30 tomorrow afternoon to mark the exact moment one week ago that the worst mass shooting in the Queen City's history started to unfold. Hillary Clinton bombshell. The other big story at five, Robbie Mook, the former campaign manager for the then Democratic presidential nominee testifying today that Mrs Clinton signed off on spreading false information trying to make it look like Russia helped former president Trump win the 2016 election. We knew that there was no intelligence that showed that the Russians and Trump or Republicans had anything to do with any of this former California Congressman, Devin Nunes chaired the House Intelligence Committee when the Trump Russia collusion story first broke. Why is this interesting today? It's the fact that M would turn over his former boss as the campaign manager who clearly had to have authorized and then sold it out to the media. So I think this is an interesting reel. Of course, we knew that Hillary Clinton knew about it and Robby Mook dropped the Hillary Clinton bombshell while testifying at the trial of former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussman, who's accused of lying to the FBI now to the pain at the pump another day, another record, in fact, 11 straight days of records have been set there. The national average now sits at 4 59 a gallon. Do you believe that gas prices are too high? Americans are still recovering from this terrible pandemic. And there are a lot of other world events that are making things difficult for all of us that is Interior Secretary Deb Hollis. So it sounds you're unwilling to say that gas prices are too high, doing all we can. Senator. But Wyoming, Senator John Barrasso says most Americans don't think this administration is doing all they can. The administration is completely out of touch with the American people and out of touch with the pain that the American people are suffering on a daily basis as they can no longer afford to fill the tank. New Yorkers paying 490 on average for a gallon of gas. It's 480 a gallon in Pennsylvania. So where is the president? He's in South Korea. It's not an act of courage to jump to the other side of the world when your own country is obviously in trouble. Former Assistant Secretary of State Robert Charles. This looks an awful lot like a deflection and running away from problems that have got his poll numbers in the base. The latest AP poll in fact shows President Biden's popularity now at the lowest point of his presidency. Just 39% of the country thinks Mr Biden is doing a good job. The president touring a Samsung computer chip factory and meeting with South Korea's new president today. So much of the future of the world is going to be written here in the Indo Pacific. We're standing at an inflection point in history where the decisions we make today will have far reaching impacts on the world. We leave to our Children to Mar Air Force one touching down in Seoul, South Korea. Earlier today, it is the president's first trip to Asia since taking office. He will also be in Japan now to the southern border in advance of Monday's rescinding of title 42 by the Biden administration, the city of El Paso, Texas has already declared an immigration emergency. It's going to get horrific. We're looking at numbers right on the El Paso area on a daily basis of about 1100 arrests when title 42 is lifted, that's going to approach 2000. That border patrol agent says law enforcement is overwhelmed by the flood of illegal crossings, the humanitarian crisis. We've left that mark about nine months ago. I think the definition of a title 42 was a Trump era border policy that for public health concerns allowed for the immediate expulsion of illegals. It comes to an end. Monday, Texas. Governor Greg Abbott says once title 42 goes away, the total number of illegal border crossings in a year will exceed the total number of people living in Houston right now. That number is 2.5 million. Still to come. This Friday, the Capitol connection crew with the top stories from New York and Pennsylvania this week. Plus the miracle baby that was born not once but twice. I'm Kevin Williams. And here is your family life, regional weather forecast and look and feel like summer this weekend with heat, humidity, but some sunshine, but there will be some thunderstorms around as well. So as you go about your outdoor plans, keep an eye on the sky. Our call for tonight, Balmy. Now there will be some early evening thunderstorms exiting eastern Pennsylvania and eastern southern tier. But otherwise it's a quiet night, partially cloudy, low sixties and low seventies for tomorrow. Very warm to hot and humid with some sunshine. A couple of late day thunderstorms near Lake Syria and Ontario with high temperatures in the eighties and low nineties. A couple of showers and storms around Saturday night for some Sunday, be warm and humid. Some sunshine showers and thunderstorms redevelop, especially in the afternoon. High temperatures, Sunday ranging from the upper seventies to the upper eighties. All right, Kevin Williams, you're plugged into the five o'clock report on family life and welcome back to another edition of Capital Connection Fridays. We give you direct connection to what's happening in Albany and Harrisburg with the experts on the issues at the State Capitols. They are as always Michael Gear at the Pennsylvania Family Institute and Jason mcguire with New Yorkers for constitutional freedoms. Jason, we'll begin with you this week. The worst mass shooting this country has seen this year happened six days ago at a grocery store of all places in Buffalo, New York. This hate filled murder spree at the tops market continues to make national news. We saw the accused gunman in court this week, the president has spoken about this. New York's governor has spoken about this question lingers to this day. Why didn't New York's red flag law keep this kid from getting a weapon. You know, it should have. That's the interesting thing here is as the killer was evaluated last year for something that happened at his school. It was determined that he did not meet the qualifications that they didn't feel he had to take his weapons away. He later wrote in his diary that he basically snowed them. And so that's unfortunate that that has happened is tragic, but the red flag law really could have been employed in this situation. The governor who got a top rating from the NRA when she was a congresswoman from Buffalo. Now, Governor Hoke singing a different tune when it comes to gun control, did she offer sensible legislation or is this an infringement on the second amendment? Well, I'm concerned about the direction this goes, the devil is always in the details. Now, we are mandating that this will occur in these instances as opposed to discretion. You know, at the end of the day, I don't know that legislatively we can stop every shooting wickedness is in the heart of man and until sin is no more, we will continue to see sinful actions occur in our society. And Michael, even though this is a New York story, the reach of this is everywhere. President Biden was in Buffalo back on Tuesday and used that speech to call on Congress to pass the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act. What are your concerns with that legislative effort? Well, there are a number of them and part of it has to do with what we've seen from the Biden administration in the past, especially when the justice department was called into action related to parents, speaking out at school board meetings and being described as terrorists. And when it goes that far, when you see that sort of attitude from the federal government, it makes you nervous when they start reaching for more power. This is an absolute tragedy what we saw in Buffalo, but it's very hard to figure out how to preemptively get involved to stop it. Let's move on. Jason New York's new congressional map would place five pairs of incumbents in the same districts, Jerry Nadler, one of those who may have to fight for his seat. A guy that's been around forever. It seems when you look at that map does it favor Republicans or Democrats or doesn't it matter? Well, I think it's actually a pretty fair distribution of the state. I like the maps that actually make sure that there is a fair and independent process that's occurring here. Now, that is probably going to benefit the Republicans in the state because the last maps really did heavily favor the Democrats. But one has to wonder when you see incumbents coming up against each other. Why doesn't just one of the long time elected officials? Republican or Democrats simply step aside and retire? Why do they think they're entitled to these seats? Of course, Michael, everybody in the country is paying attention to that Senate primary in Pennsylvania that is gone into overtime. Dr Odd Dave mccormick, we may not know the results of that one until June. Why does it take so long? Well, the larger reason for that is because of the mail in voting that takes place in Pennsylvania and the way the law was structured and court rulings subsequently have been structured. Plus we had the misprinting of tens of thousands of ballots in Lancaster County which prevented the machines from scanning them. So those two things plus the closeness of this race which likely will require recounts or the reason why we have. Thank you guys, Michael Gear at the Pennsylvania Family Institute and Jason mcguire at New Yorkers for constitutional freedoms, speaking with our own bob Price together, they are the capital connection crew. It's time now for your market report brought to you each and every day by ambassador advisors, Wall Street fell flat to close out the work week after the S and P 500 briefly fell into bare territory. Today, stocks trimmed losses in late trading as recession, fears continued to rattle the markets. The S and P 500 recovered earlier losses to finish just in the green. At the closing bell. The Dow gained eight. The NASDAQ lost 33 the S and P 500 added a fraction of a point. Hi, I'm Rob West with today's money wise minute. No, I'm not predicting anything but I know that recessions occur occasionally and it's been a while since we've had one recessions typically are marked by rising unemployment and an overall slowdown in economic activity. So let me ask, would you do if you lost your job or had your hours reduced? Do you have enough emergency savings to tide you over? Do you know which expenses you would cut right away to help make ends meet? Are you working your way out of debt? So you won't have debt payments hanging over your head if money gets tighter instead of waiting until a recession is upon us. And still to come this Friday, meet the baby who's about to be born twice. I'm Kevin Williams. And here is your family life, regional weather forecast and look and feel like summer this weekend with heat, humidity, but some sunshine, the some thunderstorms around as well. So as you go about your outdoor plans, keep an eye on the sky. Our call for tonight, Balmy. Now there will be some early evening thunderstorms exiting eastern Pennsylvania and eastern southern tier. But otherwise it's a quiet night, partially cloudy low temp 60 s and low seven S for tomorrow. Very warm to hot and humid with some sunshine. A couple of late day thunderstorms near Lake Syria and Ontario with high temperatures in the eighties and nineties. A couple of showers and storms around Saturday night for some Sunday, be warm and humid. Some sunshine showers and thunderstorms red up, especially in the afternoon. High temperatures Sunday ranging from the upper seventies to the upper eighties. All right, Kevin Williams have yourself a great weekend. Finally, this Friday a baby set to be born soon has already been born. Reporter Lucinda Kay explains this little guy almost didn't make it and now he'll soon be able to boast two births at 19 weeks pregnant. Jane Ashley learned her unborn son had spina bifida. That's when the spine and spinal cord don't form correctly. Doctors told her there's no hope she got a second opinion and she found a medical team in Orlando that operates on babies before they're even born. It's called open fetal surgery. Opened me up like ac section, repaired the defect in his back, closed me back up and then I stayed pregnant for the rest of the time. 23 year old Jane is a regular on Tik Tok and posted from the hospital just a few days ago. She'll stay in Ronald mcdonald house until the baby is really ready to come out. I'm Lucinda Kay. Great story. Thank you Lucinda. That is the world we live in this Friday. Thanks for coming along. Have yourself a great weekend. I'm Bill Price, Family Life News.
