Every year in the United States, over 600,000 people go missing the good news. Most are found, but thousands are never recovered. Cherrie Mahan got off her school bus in Pennsylvania in 1985 and vanished before she could reach her home. The mother of her school friends was in a car behind the bus. She saw Cherry passed a distinctive blue van before turning the corner toward her driveway. But Cherry never made it home. Mahan's case led to widespread distribution of postcards with her picture and the words, Have you seen me printed on them, a procedure that became standard for missing child cases in the years to follow.
