psychologists have been arguing over the reasons for human beings straying from society's norms and committing heinous and horrifying crimes for the best part of a century. Perfect case studies for this debate are exceedingly rare. In the modern day, however, on the eighth of April 2009, the whole world would be rocked by what would later be coined as the crime of the century. At 3:30 p.m. Eight year old Tory Stafford embarked on her journey home from school. Sadly, she would never finish that journey. As Tory and the rest of her fellow classmates exited the building, a stranger by the name of Terri Lyne McLin tick gripped Tory's hand on, walked her to a nearby car where Michael Rafferty was waiting in the passenger seat. Tori was later abducted, driven to a remote location, raped, beaten, murdered and eventually left in a field. Michael Rafferty was the main culprit on aggressor for these acts. Therefore, many psychologists believe that Michael Rafferty was born evil on. These acts are in his nature. Opinions on Terri Lyne McClintock, however, are much more varied. Is evil in her nature, always evil, nurtured via her surroundings, Environment experiences on influences. The key to a successful interrogation is to ensure the suspect feels as uncomfortable as possible to induce a sense of no escape. That is most likely why Terri Lyne McLin tick has been placed in the corner of the room on an uncomfortable chair. It is a very common on widely known technique, however, extremely effective in nearly all interrogation Sze. Another tactic the detective has utilised is his positioning in the room. He has put his body between Terry on the door, therefore implying that Terry has to go through the detective to escape on. By this point, she knows the only way to go through the detective is to be honest about her involvement in the crimes the detective employees to techniques in the next passage of the video. As we're watching from the safety and comfort of our homes, these techniques may seem easy to spot in a high anxiety environment of an interrogation. Thes techniques will likely not be recognised by the suspect, especially when the techniques have dropped into the detectives dialogue. Naturally, the first technique is what is known to many as the futility technique. This technique involves acting like the suspect has no choice but to confess or, in some cases pretending like she already has. The detective will perform this technique by phrasing questions differently. For example, you saw this instead of Did you see this? Also, any attempt to deny the allegations will be shut down. As the confidence of the suspect has to be at an all time low. An exhausted suspect may accept their fate and confess all. The second technique the detective uses is offering a reward for the suspect's confession. In this instance, he uses the mental relief that she will gain after confessing. This is what he tries to imply by using the metaphor of a Band Aid. This line of questioning may seem insignificant. At first, however, it has more value than many may think. The more detail the detective gathers about the burial site, the higher the chances are of finding Tori's body. And secondly, if Terry gets the minor details correct, it proves beyond a doubt to a jury that she must have been present at the time of Tories murder. You may have noticed by now that the detective is constantly changing his positioning in the room and also his body posture. The detective does this to strategically match the level of tension he wants to enforce upon the subject. When he wants Terri to be calm, unable to remember the minor details, he will have expensive body posture. Sit back in his chair on, move further away from Terry. However, when he wants to heighten the tension, apply more pressure or thinks she's lying, he will sit forward in his chair. Maintain eye contact. A move closer to Terry on May 11th 2012 Michael Rafferty was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. Terri Lyne McLin Tick was also sentenced to life in prison, but she has a chance of parole in only 19 years.
