This is gifts from a dying sister from the book conscious women conscious lives. When we were Children, my sister Josie and I were very close. The elder. By two years I was the extroverts, the leader, the fearless one. My parents used to say, Because you're the eldest, you have to care for your little sister. Josi followed me around while I created all kinds of situations for us both to experience. It was the way things were in those days. We both seem to accept each other's roles. This was our relationship, and it continued more or less the same way until she was 24. At that point, Josi married a man eight years her senior and moved to another city. From then on, our relationship changed dramatically. Our lives moved in different and very separate directions. Then, at age 40 Josi became ill with lung cancer. She moved back to Toronto and our lives reconnected on a journey that lasted 18 months. It was during this ordeal that for the first time in many years, we told one another how much we cared for and loved each other. Josi said to me, I don't want to die. I told her that I didn't want her to die and promised to care for her two Children if she did not recover. We were beginning to bond again in love as sisters.
