The man known to history as Leif Erickson or Leaf. The lucky was the first Viking to ever set foot on North American soil. He was an Icelandic explorer and the son of Eric the Red, who was known notably as the founder of the first Norse settlement in Greenland. Leaf is known in the annals of history as the first European to cross into continental North America. Approximately half a millennium before Italian explorer Christopher Columbus. His tale is an embodiment of bravery and relentless pursuit of horizons. Unknown to many. He has been credited according to Nor Sagas as the one who around the year 1000 ad had established a Norse settlement in Vinland, modern day Newfoundland in Canada. Leaf's story begins in the late 10th century when he was born. There are no records of his place of birth, but it was assumed that he was born in Iceland where his parents met and which at the time had been colonized by Norman, particularly from Norway. He was born to Eric the Red and his wife Jo Hild. He was also the grandson of Thor W A W so the father of Eric, the Red, who had been exiled from Norway on the charges of an unknown count of manslaughter. It was in this period of exile that Eric founded Greenland west of Iceland and established its first permanent settlement there from Leaf's lineage. You will see a pattern of adventure seeking men. He even shares the same ancestry as Nado, the Norse Viking who is known in history as the discoverer of Iceland. Due to limited records of Viking civilisations. there are no records of leaf's exact date of birth. However, it has been roughly estimated that he was born in the circa 19 seventies. He had two brothers, Thorstein and Thor Vault and a sister Fris. Also in his childhood, he found a foster father in one of Eric's thralls. A word used in Viking society for slaves who had been charged with the responsibility of taking care of Eric's Children. According to the Norse Sagas, Leif Erickson was a wise considerate, strong man. Most say he was of striking appearance. He had left for Norway when he became of age, possibly to serve as a retainer to its king Olaf thrive. And this was the start of his valiant adventure across tumultuous seas and new horizons. While on his journey to Norway. According to the Saga of Eric, the Red, he made a stop at the Hebrides where he and his crew enjoyed most of their summer. It was at this place that leaf fell in love with a noble woman called Thor gunner and it was not long before they had their son Thor Gills.
