Module six Humanistic practice. Humanistic theories are a broad area of social work practice based on the common idea that people are trying to make sense of the world. We experience clients subjective understanding and experiences are valued, and social work practice aims to help the individual understand their own personal identity in relation to others. Personal identity includes how we relate to others the totality of how we are and the relationships we are a part of social workers, using a humanistic perspective, believe in the capacity of clients to improve themselves. This approach seeks to reestablish the focus of social work as empowering and liberating, rather than problem solving in nature.
