In June 18 92 Homer Plessy purchased a first class ticket and boarded a train in New Orleans. He was immediately asked to give up his seat. Plus, he refused, was removed from the train and arrested the reason. Although he was 7/8 Caucasian, Homer Plessy was still considered a black man and had knowingly broken Louisiana's Separate Car Act, a law that racially segregated railway transportation.
