driving can be dangerous, especially for teens. Parents can help get their teams the experience they need to be safer on the road. Watch for blind spots. You might be familiar with them, but your new driver probably isn't. Blind. Spots show up anywhere. A driver's vision is blocked, usually just behind into the side of the vehicle. If drivers aren't careful, they can miss pedestrians, bicyclists and even entire vehicles hiding in their blind spots to demonstrate. Have your team get into the driver's seat with the car parked, stand toward the back and slowly moved behind the vehicle while your team watches you in the mirrors. Have your teen point out when you disappear from view, then have your team turn around and see where you're standing. That's the blind spot. Repeat this process all around the vehicle to show that mirrors can't give you a perfect view. Your team needs to look over both shoulders to know the blind spots are clear. New blind spot warning technology can help, but always recommend your team. Look for themselves your team to check blind spots before turning, merging and backing up or else a crash is much more likely It'll take your Tina while to master this skill. So stay calm and be supportive. Remember, Everything that seems obvious to you is completely new to your team. Go slow, stay safe and help your team become a driver. We all want to share the road with. Brought to you by the National Safety Council in partnership with General Motors.
