Once upon a time in a far away land, a young prince lived in a shining castle. Although he had everything his heart desired. The prince was spoiled, selfish and unkind. But then one winter's night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold, repulsed by her haggard appearance. The prince sneered at the gift and turned the old woman away but she warned him not to be deceived by appearances for beauty is found within. And when he dismissed her again, the old woman's ugliness melted away to reveal a beautiful enchantress. The prince tried to apologize but it was too late for. She had seen that there was no love in his heart and as punishment, she transformed him into a hideous beast and placed a powerful spell on the castle and all who lived there. A survey was taken a few years ago that asked 300 professionals. One question, what's the worst thing that could happen in sports? Some people answered losing a game. Seven, some people said it was missing the World Cup and some Brazilians said it was losing to Argentina, not just in the World Cup any time ever in any contest, but one person answered that. The worst thing that could happen in sports was fourth place at the Olympics. I've spent 16 years chasing winter and being coached by the best in the world Sundays were for working out with my father when I was 12 years old for no particular reason. My back exploded. I had what's called rapid onset scoliosis. I needed a seven hour surgical procedure that involves straightening my spine, extracting bone from my hip, using 11 vertebrae together and fastening steel rods to a few segments. I was on skis again in a year running locals in 18 months and by my 20th birthday, I had made the US ski team.
