How to Fill Out Your Voice Actor Profile

Your Bio

At the top here we have the ‘Public Address’ section. You can fill out your exact address in the ‘Contact Info’ tab, but this ‘Public Address’ section is what we use for location-based searches. If you live close to New York City, then you’ll want to list NYC instead of the small town just outside of the city. 

Next is the ‘Highlights’ section. This is the first part that a client will read when looking at your profile so you’ll want to make sure that it grabs their attention. Let them know a little about yourself, your voice and the work that you’re most interested in doing. This area is searchable for keyword searches, so be sure to work in as much detail as you can, while still writing in full sentences.

Also, the Highlights section is a great opportunity to sell yourself. Feel free to point out your experience briefly or mention that you’ve offered your other Voices customers a 5-star experience.

Languages and Gender

Take a look through this list to make sure that you have all of the languages listed that make sense for you – you can select up to 5 languages on your profile.

Click ‘Add Language’, then please select and scroll through the list to choose the languages that you speak.

A common mistake people make is missing some of the language variations. For example, if you live in North America, you’ll want English (North American) in addition to this generic English category. If you don’t have English North American selected you simply won’t see jobs posted in that categories.

Next we have the ‘Accents’ section. Here we have a list of almost every accent you could possibly assign to your account. You can choose up to 30 accents to have listed here on your Bio.

Like your languages, it’s very important to go through this list carefully to make sure you have as many relevant accents listed as possible. This is really important because this area is searchable for keyword searches, but also contributes to the VoiceMatch score when we’re matching your profile to the job postings.

Click on the space there to review the list. You can type the accent you’re looking for to quickly find it in the list or simply scroll through to see each one.

Next you’ll add the age ranges you can perform. We have – child, teen, young adult, middle aged and senior to choose from. Click “Add Voice Age” to add another voice age or click on the “x” to remove one from the list.

Under special skills you’ll want to choose all of the different types of voice-over jobs you’re interested in. Please know that if you don’t have a special skill selected you won’t be invited to those types of jobs. Please select everything you’re interested in, even if you don’t have experience in that area.

Experience

First we have the experience level. You can choose beginner or professional. This information won’t be shared with the client, this is actually just for our internal reference. It helps us to send you training and resource material that makes sense for your experience level. So if you really are a beginner please say that you are.

Here you have a free form text box that you can use to explain your experience. This is a great place to highlight the number of years you’ve been doing voice-over work and to explain the types of work you have experience doing.

Again, this is another opportunity for you to sell your business and to make the client feel comfortable about working with you. Let the client know about the relevant and unique skills you have. Are you a whiz with medical terminology? Have experience with performing different character voices? This type of information would be ideally noted here. As you grow your business, be sure to come back and update this section too!

Let us know how many years of experience you have using this dropdown.

Credentials

Here, you’ll want to let the client know about all of the voice-over training you have, as well as other education that could be related to a certain topic of a voice-over. For example, if you have studied Education, then you would be a great fit for all of the e-learning tutorials that are posted on Voices!

Here you can list the Associations you’re with. Are you a union actor? This is where you can choose the union you belong to.

Studio

Please tell us which microphone you’re using, or if you have several, be sure to note them all.

Then, let us know what type of computer you’re using and what recording software you use.

Under special equipment, you can let the client know about your ISDN line, about Source-Connect or ipDTL.

Your Voices account already includes a file delivery method, but you may have an another way to share files, such as a personal FTP or other file sharing service. Be sure to list those alternatives here.

Under Turnaround Time, this is where you can highlight your speed of service. Depending on project complexity, we encourage our talent to complete projects as quickly as possible, usually within 24 hours, explain this here.

Service Description

Share more about the level of customer service the client can expect from you. It’s also a good idea to note all of the other related services that you can offer, such as copy editing, writing, translation or even full production.

Testimonials

Next you have a section to add your customer testimonials. When you get hired and paid through Voices, your clients will be able to leave you a review on your profile.  This section is a little different: here, you can highlight testimonials from clients that you have worked with outside of Voices. If you don’t have anything yet, encourage your clients to write something for you or check your emails to see if there’s a tidbit that could be used, be sure to get their permission.

Now go over here to the top right corner and click “View Your Voices Profile” to see how a client will view your profile.

Now that you have a solid understanding of how to fill out your profile, go ahead and complete it as much as possible. As you gain more experience and skills you should add that information to your profile too, to keep up to date.
