Studio Musician Job Description

Summary:

A studio musician backs other artists during live performances or in the studio. The studio musician must be able to sight-read and to perform several different genres of music. The studio musician works with producers, bandleaders, recording artists and other musicians. 

Responsibilities:

  • Play music for artists in the studio, or during live performances.
  • Contribute to the writing of the specific arrangement.
  • Provide the musical instruments and associated equipment required to complete the task.
  • Assist the sound engineer and producer with recording and mix down.
  • Work diligently until the part is completed satisfactorily.

Required Skills:

  • A robust knowledge of music theory and technique.
  • Being highly creative.
  • Having a robust knowledge of recording studio working practice, or, if it’s live, the gig process.
  • Always being reliable and punctual.
  • The ability to improvise.

Educational Requirements:

  • A background in any facet of music is an asset.

Session Drummer Job Description

Summary:

Session drummers are used when musical skills are needed on a casual or short-term basis. Session drummers are contracted by recording studios to provide backing tracks for other musicians, for recording sessions and live performances, to be used for film, television, advertising and theater.

Brand Promoter Job Description

Summary:
