Work with Clients More Efficiently Through Live Directed Sessions

Anne Joldersma | June 28, 2023

We’ve now launched the ability for clients to request a live directed session right on the job form. Live Directed Sessions remove the back and forth of revisions and allow the client to provide feedback to you in real time. We hope making this process even easier for you and for clients will increase your opportunities and improve your day-to-day working experience.

What This Update Looks Like in Your Job Invites

  1. What This Update Looks Like in Your Job Invites
  2. Quoting for Live Directed Sessions

You’ll now see whether the client wants a live directed session right in your job invite emails as well as in the job list, in your filtering options, and in the detailed job posting view.

Quoting for Live Directed Sessions

When you respond to a job requesting a live directed session, you’ll see the usual single quote field in the response template. Keep in mind that this quote has to include the cost of providing the work, any licensing requirements, and the cost of providing a live directed session. Generally, charging for the cost of a one-hour live directed session is typical, but it will depend on the word count specified in the job posting. It’s completely up to you to quote what you feel is appropriate for providing a live directed session.

You’ll see what the client pays and what you take home as you’re used to seeing. The client will see the total when they hire and check out. Only respond to these jobs if you do offer live directed sessions.

Once you’re hired, coordinating schedules and providing conferencing details for live directed sessions can be done through Voices on-platform messaging. For the protection of both you and the client, it’s important to use the Voices messaging feature to communicate, and not to share other personal contact information.

If you haven’t already, please make sure to do the following if you offer live directed sessions:

1. Edit the Live Directed Session Section in Your Profile

In this section, indicate whether you offer live directed sessions and all of the software you’re able to use for these sessions.

2. Response Templates: Live Directed Session Policy Field

This is an optional open text field that you can use to specify logistics and any specific detail you think would be helpful for clients to know about your process for live directed sessions.

Make sure to edit your profile now if you haven’t already!

Thanks for reading. As always, if you have any feedback on this update, please send it to [email protected].

I’m a little unclear. Do clients see the price breakdown (cost of project and cost of session separately) or do they just see the final full cost?

      Hello Charlotte Ann!

The client sees the full cost at checkout and is told that the live directed session fee is included in that cost.

Thanks for the clarification! So – is the breakdown of the two costs (session and usage) just seen by voices staff then? Trying to understand why I would break it down rather than just enter the one lump sum as I have been before. Thanks for your help!

Based on user testing with talent, the product team decided it would be easier for talent to quote on these separately for the talent’s own clarity. It’s also helpful if, for example, a client decides they no longer want a live directed session, but still want the work completed – it makes refunds in that case for just the live directed session portion easier to process. That being said, product wants to hear from talent, so if you wanted to share your feedback it can go to [email protected], which goes directly to our product team. We hope this helps!
