We went back into action in August for the Gothic line. There was a tremendous amount of shellfire in most of the areas. A place called Monta Majority. They just blanket in the valley with mortars coming in by the hundreds. But we survived that until a day or two later, when the big railway gun started firing on Mont Majority on. One of our young fellows was badly wounded with it and subsequently passed away. I've got very tender thoughts for Scotch coil because when I bent down over him on the stretcher, I said, Coil just lay still when he said I know you, Gordie and he put his arms around my neck and well, by the time they put him in the truck to go toe, anade post, he was gone. Being awakened in the middle of the night to 3 30 I began to sink into a panic that I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. My mind began to dart every which way to all the stresses in my life, finishing a book, going on the road for a family wedding after what seemed like a painfully short respite at home, eventually having resigned myself to the reality of sleeplessness. I got up and made myself a cup of tea. Sitting in the dark, I could suddenly sense the Lord whispering into my ear. Don't neglect to see the beauty of the life around you while being overwhelmed by the duties of life, I turned on my Pandora music channel. Let's small vanilla candles placed strategically throughout my living room and ask God to open my eyes. I began to thank God for the sweet Children he had placed in my life, desiring to be close in spirit to Sarah, my eldest daughter, who is even now across the sea in Oxford, England.
