I've learned a lot since the world ended. Mostly I've learned to stop taking things for granted. I know there's nothing that can be done about it now, but I want to explain how the world came to an end and to take some responsibility. I wish to apologise for my part In the apocalypse. Each full moon was so much bigger than the last. It was creeping up on us whilst our backs returned like some interplanetary game of grandmother's footsteps. You can't see it moving, but it must be hurtling through space hurtling towards us. Since the moon broke through the cloud line, it had stopped raining. I missed watching the light change. I missed watching the sky, healing itself from the scars of aeroplane vapour trails. I miss the clouds clotting purple is the sky burned, bruised and disappeared. Now there was an ever present mottled grey ceiling above us, impossible to ignore. Impossibly beautiful, terrifying. I could no longer fight it. I was transfixed by it as anyone, but to me it looked like death. An eyeless skull looming down on us all on me. I'm sorry for what happened. Maybe there was more I could have done too late. Now it's important that you understand the world didn't end in flames of gunfire. It wasn't torn apart by hate or anger. In the end, it was all about love. The history of human life on Earth was a strange, complicated sentence. The moon was the full stop.
