Charles effort. Phil Collins was born in London in 1951 and given a toy drum kit at the age of five. He spent his teenage years training as an actor by day and listening to bands at SoHo's marquee club and other venues in the evenings. In March 1965 a slew of Motown artist toured Britain. They included Martha and the Vandellas, the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and Little Stevie Wonder. The tour was not a financial success, but for many of those who heard the music, a lifelong love affair with Motown began for 10,000 years. They have, whether the ravages of the seasons, what were once the great herds of millions, systematic slaughter, unrestricted hunting and encroachment have left them a tiny fraction of the vast land they once roamed.
