on Monday, October 31st Scruple Haven Area High School hosted its first ever mock presidential debate, headed by Mr Chuck Rebus, Key the students prepared since the first week of school by watching presidential debates and researching the topics address. Grabowski stated that to prepare for the debate, students were put into teams in either of support of presidential candidate Mr Donald J. Trump or former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Once put the teams, they were able to have a few practice debates before the real thing. Last Monday, Grabowski had this to say about the students reaction to the debate as well as a performance as an audience. I thought the audience was very well behaved. I thought most of them were interested in the topics. I thought they were attentive. I thought that they probably had their own opinions reinforced by what was going on on the stage with the people in the debate itself as a representation of the students involved with the debate, I spoke with Mary Zimmerman and Harry Mago, we both 17 and seniors at super late binary school district who served as table leaders for the discussion like primary concerns, is to keep our country going in the right direction also to keep the civil liberties protected. My primary concerns are again, as Harry said, to keep this country going in the right direction. With a similar goal in mind, Students only disagreed on their candidate's policies, with topics ranging from education to immigration. Rosie Stop, 16 and a junior at the school, had this to say about what topics affect her and why my primary concerns for this election are how they're going to treat this country after either one is elected and how the election is going to warm the country afterwards because there's a big division between the people. Maddie Schaefer, a 17 year old senior at the school, described her family situation and how it affected her political views. I come from a military family, so a lot of the times, you know when people are talking about war and stuff, that's kind of a big issue for me because that like directly impacts my family. Maddy is unsure which way to lean this election as the candidates flaws air hard to overcome. However, Schaefer did described Trump as a person who gets things done and she believes that that is a good thing for a president. Tohave, Matty is not alone when she says she supports Trump. When the school conducted its mock election the very next morning, students voted overwhelmingly for Trump, with Clinton falling behind. Students were also given a write in ballot, which some students used to advance their candidate, while others did not take it so seriously. The students and faculty members we spoke with after the debate all had the same thing to say. There was no new ideas formed at the debate, but instead reinforced ideas already present in the student minds, with much talk about the candidates, scandals and personal lives. Students agreed that the debate was a success and they were entertained throughout the entire event. I'm Jacob McGovern, and this has been a special election report.
