Welcome to life talks Radio with Teela. Get ready to hear, Riel life. You life Practical solutions to help you get to where you want to be. Thank you. Thank you. Now let's get up close and personal with your host Kayla on life talks Radio radio on AM 11 50 TMP Good morning, everyone. Welcome to life talks radio. I thank you for tuning in with this this morning. I'm your host, Sheila. And I just want a little bit about why we have life talk. I'm a realtor, formerly one of the executive resolutions manager for a large dining institutions in the U. S. I'm also former underwriter, former loan officer, flapping around like 15 18 years providing a service here in Tampa. Tampa is represented this morning, but like I said, over the past few years, we've seen so many people very struggles in life with our health, our finances, our mortgage, our families, everybody around in our communities, we've seen them face so very difficult situations in life, Live talks, radio. We feature an ask attorney segment. This segment covers relevant information that may be going on in our community. Questions that some of you may have that you've written in and you want to know the answer to. We feature attorneys on our life talk segment. We call it Ask Attorney. This is the time when we give you great information from an attorney's perspective. This week we have attorney Rossi Williams. She's a registered nurse civil rights attorney known for her revitalizing, empowering messages about health care, adversity and leading through service. Rossi desires to one day soon be the president of the end of all a C P. Good morning, Attorney Williams. How are you? Good morning. Thank you for having me back. We're glad to have you back. And I invited you back on the show this week so we can talk about the recent buzz surrounding the Super Bowl performance of Beyonce. And there's some of the remarks from police in their unions that somewhat suggest that they didn't want to protect and serve for these concerts in here in Florida. And one of the things I wanted to discuss with you and share with the listeners is that but we've already seen some poor behavior from police officers. You know that We've seen excessive force we've seen now in this case we don't. There's no force at all. They don't even want to participate in some cases what I've read buzzing around social media and so what? This has taught me what this has shown me over the years. Have we seen all of this kind of unfold? Is that truly behind every badge or behind every position of authority is just mere me in or mere women, and they're capable of anything. So I brought you on the show to share some things that we should consider while maybe were supported the concert. Or maybe we're supporting some of the activities. I don't know. People may start rioting or they may start trying to combat some of that because they don't see why they wouldn't support. But I know that sometimes we want to express ourselves, but sometimes we do it without all the information that we should have been doing. So So I believe people perish for lack of knowledge. And I brought you on hoping that you would share some information with us that, you know, maybe some people are going to be participating. And if there is a reason that there's no security and we may be trying to, you know, kind of fight back, so to speak or express myself, so to speak. We don't I don't want to see you about to get in trouble. So I want to see if we can get some information to help us. You know, as we continue to support if you're supporting Beyonce or you're supporting some of the events, maybe rallies or protest ing or whatever. So what can you share with us today? Well, first, I have to say, this is definitely an own time topic you could nail on the head and I do want to discuss formation. But basically from a criminal defense perspective, because, you know, criminal defense is very close to my heart. I became an attorney because and after my brother was incarcerated. So I want to look at this from the perspective of the power of the voice, the badge and the pin p e. In. And let me just explain that because it applies, no matter what race you are, I'm sure everybody's heard the anecdote that the pen is mightier than the sword. But so often we forget this when it comes to the law, when the Pam is in the hands of a law enforcement officer. It becomes the narrative on the police report. Whether tour falls in the hand of the prosecutor, it becomes the signature, deciding whether to seek an indictment or levy formal charges. And in the hands of the judge, it becomes the signature that orders life without parole. We saw years ago with politicians it became the apparatus for what is now known as three strikes. You're out so the power of the pan is far reaching and should never be overlooked. Now, in Beyonce situation, to use the power of the voice to basically highlights some increased instances of racial injustice, especially against black males than law enforcement responded with the power of the badge by refusing to provide protection at her upcoming concerts. So both singularly and collectively, the powers of voice and badge then amplified because people joined both sides in protest physically and also media. But the true question for me from a criminal defense perspective was whether those who are defending beyonc or formation remain confident of who holds the pin. Because I can guarantee you that law enforcement knows the answer. Now this question is not to discourage anyone from defending formation because I'm a true believer in standing for what you believe in. Rather, the question is designed to provoke people to safely assess the opposition and accurately count the cost of how far they're willing to go in any fight, because there's really no activism without sacrifice. But for many people in arrest on Saturday means you have a lot of job on Monday and sometimes even more so. You really have to be confident of who's holding that pin in that situation. Is this an officer with integrity versus an officer who's corrupt? Because the narrative they write will determine what happens from there. So what we see a lot of times is that the misconception is that this doesn't matter because the charges are dropped or dismissed. But what people fail to realize that in the rest record remains? Even if your charges are dropped or dismissed, unless you go through the very separate and distinct process of X function or feeling of your record, you know, even if the prosecutor tells you that it's expunged or it's going to be expunged, he cannot do that from his office alone. It's still a very distinct process codified and Florida law and procedure as to how it must occur. So what I want people to be aware of is that when you're protesting, when you're fighting and you're engaging law enforcement, remember that the decision that you make right then in that split second, the twinkling of an eye, actually can affect your entire life from the power of the pen. We're talking about the ability to get a job, the ability to live in certain neighborhoods, even obtain a professional life despite graduating with a college degree to carry certain types of weapons. So as you get information, always remember who holds the pin and comes up yourself accordingly and saying that I'll give an example. The Nation of Islam has respectfully offered security for beyond face tour, and they definitely have the disciplined power of a thunderous voice with present they can protect. But they have no badge, which means they ultimately do not have the power of the pen. So when the pin is in the hands of law enforcement who may encounter these gentlemen that Beyonce's concert let may become the narrative could be resisting arrest, obstruction of justice battery on a law enforcement officer. It does not always have to be true for the EAC to spell it out. That you have to always be calm isn't who you're standing in front of. And while people may say, well, our law enforcement even do their simple. But we got a call there, the government, you know, that's usually how that happens. So what do you dio about this? The answer is simple, but I'm going to tell you in reality it's hard, and I don't want people to feel that I am diminishing this, especially when you're in the heat of passion. That protest. But this is what I do and very high charged situations. And I'm going to tell you what you must do. And it is you stop. You speak and you train your mind to ask one question, and it happens in less than three seconds. For me, every time isn't worth it. Basically, is the outcome worth it? Because whenever I engage a highly charged situation within 3 to 5 seconds, I see the outcome flashed before my eyes and I asked, Is it worth it? And it is not like that. Even though sometimes I miscalculated. You know, I'm not. I'm not perfect here, but I'm trying to get people to understand that again. You don't want to just live to fight today. Need to live to fight your fight another day. So the question becomes in my criminal defense clients will tell Oh, you that I engrained that into them. Then I represent them so that once we are completed, we've completed that situation of that case that I hopefully will never have to see them in court charged again. Is it worth that? So, in closing, I just want people to remember to use your voice. Your voice does make change, but in using the voice, respect the badge because unless you hold the pin, the cost of the potential outcome for you really cannot be worth it. Now, if you calculate it and you think it's worth it and you end up miscalculating like we all do you are you determined it would work to go ahead and you end up arrested or charged? I want you to feel free that you can call my office to because I have a pin for you and we're gonna work this out. But I need for us to understand this because the disparity in sentencing occurs a lot where minorities are incarcerated for things that other people may not be incarcerated for, and the first step to getting you there to being incarcerated is the pin that writes the narrative to help establish the probable cause for having arrested. You are searched you in the first place. So to wrap up, just remember a few things. If you have a record, you want to see if you can have it expunged. Stop letting people fool you into thinking that a no contest clean is the science. As a not guilty plea. That is not true. And in the state of Florida, when you plead no contest, it affects your ability to have your record expunged. Why do you want it expunged? Because once it is expunged, your legally able to answer no regarding questions you see on applications regarding arrest, except for in certain circumstances, like if you're applying for a job with law enforcement or to be an attorney, something like that. Also, I want you to know that always make sure you have counsel present when giving statements and answering questions. This also includes for juvenile In Florida, we have a situation at the end of the CPI addresses as the school to prison pipeline and again, contrary to popular belief, everything that you do as a juvenile is not always automatically field. So that's very important. And last, but not least, if you have a conviction or you have family members who are incarcerated, I want you to reach out to us regarding appeals. Another attorney, another attorney. I apologize, and I work these appeals together and recover from the Panhandle down to Miami because his office is in the Panhandle and minus in Miami. But the great thing is that we only charge one fee, which is paid to my office, and we split it so basically two law firms at the price of one. But some of the recent results actually include convictions being overturned, people being released for time served based on ineffective assistance of counsel. This includes where plea agreements were in place and maybe they were coerced or intimidated. And there's a case before the Supreme Court right now where the person was released on bail and has been out for three years pending the outcome on that case. So just remember, use your voice, but respect the badge, the aware of who holds the pin. And if you don't have one, call me because we have one for you. So get information. Fight for your right, but remain safe so that you live to fight. Thank you so much. That is definitely a good information to share with listeners as they begin to participate in the concerts. And some people, maybe even somewhere, protest ing. So in doing so, knowing to respect the respect, the pen or know who has the pin is something that's definitely key to know and thinking about it. Is it worth the outcome? Because a lot of times it does flash in front of us, So thank you again for reaching out. You've given us your sochaux media contacts or your handles. How can they reach you on online, or where would you prefer to direct into? Fabio has been in fashion and fragrance for years. In the last few years, he joined Nordstrom's as the manager of the women's fragrance and my favorite person in Nordstrom's in Tampa at the International Good Morning. Five. Yo, how are you? Good morning, killer. Great to hear from you. I'm doing great. Well, thank you for taking time out of your schedule to join me on the show, but we're gonna talk about one of my favorite subjects today. So I had to have you on the air. As you know, we've entered into a new year and some of us to doing things different. 2016. We got a lot of new things going as we get ready to interest next quarter. You know, I'm a big fan of fragrance. I'm a big fan of fashion. So when I'm switching into a new season, I often choose a new fragrant ladies. You know how that works. It helps us with our mood. And I've invited my main to go source for fragrant Mr Fabio at Nordstrom's. And for years he's been my source of fragrance. No, Fabio, I brought you on the air to talk about putting into fragrances things about different fragrances. But one time in my life, I was explaining to an individual significant why I needed to have all this variations of fragrances on my shelf, you know? And I read this quote to him because I found it when he asked me about it. I really didn't have an answer, but I read this to him that sent it. Oils, perfumes and other fragrances have been adorned by people since early civilization. There numerous reasons why people were perfumes, but ultimately it boils down to the fact that they make us feel happy. The reason we feel happy is heavily dependent upon the individual, but can range from the presence of the The firm owns the memories, the thin invokes, ah feeling of escape and the ability to show our individuality through fragrance. What do you think about that? Do you think that's just over the top or somewhat exaggerated? Or do you think that's appropriate? Fragrance does all those things. At least it does for me. I think it. Let me tell you, killer, I totally agree with you. Pregnancies are meant to represent you in your everyday life, your sense of fashion, your style in your personality. But also, in my opinion, I feel that afraid that could make you feel calm, confident and secure about yourself. So basically, you know the words we can describe, you know, as pregnancy. You know, they can actually turn your whole mood around. It can make you feel sexy. It can make you feel great. It's a whole different level off confidence that you feel when you tried on a fragrance. I agree. I mean, I absolutely love it, you know, especially when it's a new fragrance or is your favorite fragrant? Or if you're in the move for feeling like you said Sexy, you definitely need a fragrance to compliment whatever you have going on you have to have a frequent. I go to Nordstrom's. And I think part of the reason I go to notions is I love the service. I love the way everybody is always so available to assist you with finding a fragrance. And then I ran into five you. So what brought you to Nordstrom? Well, I have been in the beauty industry for about a year now. Um, you know, I've done fashion shows I've done here and now what brought me into North Strom was the fact that I could enhance my training in the beauty industry. So I've learned so much from this company that I'm just so grateful to work for them this and I want to help. And I'm not saying the men don't know how to choose a fragrant, but I want you to help some of these men out with using the fragrance because I've been on some dates. Bobby. Oh, they need to come see you. Help men determine a good Reagan like flour bomb for men. I mean, I don't know what frequents, but help them know what we don't want to smell Well, yeah, most definitely. I mean, I feel that men can actually be involved in the ladies life, you know. So maybe you girls can help your men, you know, in finding your pregnant. Perhaps you can just, you know, maybe suggest that you to go into the store and tried a couple of sample, Maybe help him. Oh, guy him through what you like and what you don't like. You know, I feel like a lot of men are clueless about, you know, their women and what they wear in their style. And, you know, the color that they like. You know, I don't feel that they pay attention to that. By what? I There's only recommend to those guys out there that are looking for, you know, fragrance for that woman. If please, please pay attention to what their needs, you know, are there. It's pretty easy to, you know, just go into the cabinet and take a look at what they have. You know what means what brands that waiting right now and just come and see us. You know, we're expert, and we can definitely help you. You know, I'm picking up fragments for your girl. And then what about for them too? Like when they say, We don't want to smell brute, no harm intended on brute. But we want you to have a variety. We don't want to feel that where that to work for them. I feel that, you know, it's the same way there is. Actually, I believe there's a pyre percentage of women by inferences for the man. So I saw they just kind of let themselves go and they don't really care about a fragrance. But you know, same thing. I feel that, you know, it comes from the women's side to make the men care more about their image. Because of fragrance, it's all about the image. Do you know what I mean? Just make him, you know, make him more involved in that as well. It's just like, you know, if they were to pick out a new pair of shoes, New belt or what have you? You know it. It's just a fragrance that you know, if they enjoy it, you know their crop will enjoy it as well. Right? So let me ask you this, Fabio, this is going to be a tip for them. What fragrance do you wear? Which one of your favorite I mean, I feel like I'm such a pregnant junkie and excuse my language, but, uh I mean, why don't my ultimate ultimate favorite for guys right now I could say that it's either vice bottom. Oh, Tom for has come killing pregnancy for men. So, men, if you listen. And he just gave you two great tips, go out today and get some spice bombing. What was the other ones? Fabio? Come forward, Tom, or go out and get you some Spice bomb or Tom four. And they didn't pay me to say that. I'm just trying to help you out so you can have a fragrance on deck Me. So if you listening, I just gave you a tip. He lets go buy some flour bomb, spice bomb version for men and some Tom for the Fabio. Is there anything going on at notions coming up soon? I know you guys always keep us in gaze. You're always having these wonderful events. Were different fragrances and things like that. Do you have anything coming up soon, You know, of course I'm actually inviting everybody because on April the week of April, 10th through the 17 we're gonna be having what we call stent. Even so, it's actually a good way for you guys to learn more about pregnancies. And also not only that, but I'm gonna be having most of my vendors give a lot of extra gift with purchases, its unique experience for everybody. Nordstrom is well known for their fragrances and what we offered that it's also exclusive to us. We offer several friends that you won't see out in other retailers. And so that's why I feel that we are, in a way more special than other retailers. We are well known for a customer service. And yeah, so sentiments is like I mentioned earlier just a great way for all you guys and girls to experience new fragrances. So I would suggest that you come and see us. We're taking up women with the whole week, and we're also gonna be giving out, you know, lots of samples. You guys can try them a home and decide if you really like, um Oh, good. So you take an appointment. So, in order to like R S v p or set an appointment for that, can you Can you preach? What? Can you come in and kind of like pre pay for to hold the seat for the event, Or how does that work? Anybody could just give us a called on a 13875 44 100 we are women's presences and were actually taken appointment. Or if you guys want to command on Saturdays at 17 that's when we're gonna be having our trend show, which is also a really cool events because they show you the latest trends in the latest fashion and the beauty and the street go, the whole cosmetics department gets united. We have a lot of vendors coming in a lot of national artists, or it's really funny, but And if you girls wanna attend, um, we require from us just to buy a ticket. That ticket is $20. You can redeem the ticket towards your purchase so you don't lose anything, and that way you can secure your gift down. We're coming into the event. Yes, what times is the April 17th conch shell? The trend show starts at 80 clock in the morning on, and we usually have what we call a pre party or something. I died, which starts at 7 30 which is actually even more fun. I believe in my opinion, because we give a lot of a lot of stuff a lot of rough Flynn on, and it's just pretty fun, pretty, pretty unique event. And this is when they invite the designers, different designers and their spokespersons and some of the people that represent their brand to Nordstrom's in the morning, right? Is that the same event? Yes, exactly. Yeah, And I'm not only that, but, you know, you're also gonna see what's coming new. It's basically older latest trends, so we can compare this to what we just, you know, we went through Fashion Week in New York, but now we can compared our trend show to Fashion Week. But instead of showing you all about the clothes, this is gonna be all about the hair, makeup, skincare and fragrance is yes, I an amazing I went last year, and when I tell you, it was like at least 500 to 1000 women at the mall at 7:15 a.m. So they can get in the door By 7:30 a.m. And we had a blast. It was like a blast. So, ladies, if you listening, you definitely want to get to Nordstrom's for the April 17th trend show corporations sent the women of their company to that event. So there were a lot of women president. I met the guy that that he was mother found a chance to tell. I think the Linus call and I mean, he was there involved, engaged with with us telling us different things about their brands. That's definitely good event. I'm signing up. I'll be there April 17th. Well again, Fabio, Thank you for coming. I appreciate if you're looking for fragrant and you need a a person to help you with choosing Bobby Oh, is the man. He's been the person that I've been to four years now and he gets it so I don't have to say much. He knows what fragrances I love. So if you look at Bobby, was the person at Nordstrom's be sure to ask for him when you get there and tell him you heard him on life talk radio. I was just when I felt saving, I was drawn to it. I couldn't on this for the cause of Christ. I spend my days that would have. It's why, as I come to see the way I realize this grace is what I since the man justice for my soul. Mercy. You, you darkness trying Teoh away. Thank you, Jesus. From the cross. 23 along with. So I see. So no way, you way. Thank you. Jesus must no life talks. Montana has been a background vocalist for some great artists. Marriage oblige Kelly Rowland. And since 2003 she's been with the Queen Beyonce's as the Mama. She's 1/3 of the mama. Good morning, Montana. How are you? I'm Well, How are you? I am doing well. Thank you very much for coming on the show today. I know you probably have a hectic schedule, so I wanted to invite you on the show because of your story. Oftentimes, we have dreams. We have desires. And sometimes we need to hear from people that are actually doing something that they had a dream to one day do or they've come to a place that they're doing exactly what they desire to do. I want to know how how I want you to tell us how that experience is. And then how did you end up with the opportunity to work with Beyonce? Wow, that's a lot in the question. So pretty much as far as having a dream is concerned and chasing a dream. I was raised to believe that if you speak it, you can do it. If you believe it, you can achieve. It is just about how hard you're willing to work. So there was never a doubt in my mind that I would get to the place that I am today. Never a doubt through a lot of prayer and all sorts of things. You know, I just believed that I would be where I am. So it's definitely about your state of mind and about your work ethic. Could believe you. Me, I work extremely hard. Somehow I got with Beyonce is really, really a cool story. So before I toured would be meaning people don't know that I've actually toward with Mary J. Blockage. I was actually her artist. I had a deal with her. So while I was signed, I toured with her. And then after Mary, I began touring with different artists. And so I was touring with Kelly Rowland. And so I would see Beyonce, you know, occasionally just passing. Like if I was somewhere with Kelly and be was there, you know, I fear. And so these MD say you Nobody wants you to sing background for her. I was like, Okay, cool. And this is when the dangerously in love album was about to come out, you know? So this is right after right after she was with Destiny's Child is this is our first solo record. So I do the ladies first tour and she just called me back every tour she has. She called me back to coming things on. I'm not saying no, to be honest, who don't right. But in between all of that I've done, you know, vocal production. I've been on different soundtracks and worked on different albums and things of that nature. So it's been a like a really good time. Well, that's good. It sounds exciting. I mean, I guess when it finally came to flourish in like you said, you believe you have faith. You believe that we will be in this place. So to finally actually see it come to reality, It's just like, wow, and to finally see it and then you're singing with Beyonce wouldn't experience. So that's great. But what would you tell a listener believing God for their dreams to come true? You know, they face the ups, the downs, the struggles with the delay of the dream. You know what kind of words of wisdom or encouragement? Would you give a listener who still waiting on the dream to come to pass or you know or has some doubt? First, let me let me say this. If you have a dream, know that that you didn't give yourself that dreams. God plant that he planted that seed inside of you to give you a hunger to do what you want to do. So that dream can come true because that's something that God gave. And you need to pray and fast and believe that God can make these things happen. You know, if I don't want to get to biblical, but you know, it says there's power in the tongue. So you know, I tend to speak things as though they were, and I believe in Vision board. So I have a vision board at my house. As corny as it may sound, I write down everything that I want to do or think I want to do on this vision Ward. I work hard and I watch my work. So I would say that because my dream initially was not to be a background thinker. My dream was to be the superstar that I knew God put inside of me to be on. So this is my journey to get to that destination because the dream is not over. I'm still dreaming. I dream on a daily basis. Currently, I'm working on my album. It's called Closer, and I'll release that in April. And so I'm excited to see the fans receive it, and I'm excited just to put the music out because I've recorded forever and never put any of my music out before. So this was the first time I'm actually releasing a project, and it's very personal. Some of the song is very personal, but this is still the dream like this. Still me chasing the dream. Still me, you know, living the dream so and don't care how old you are, who tells, you know it's not over until God says is over. And everyone else can close doors that God has a way of ripping the sealing off the building and dropping you in it wherever you're supposed to be. So you have to believe that God can do those things. My, my scripture that I love to quote is I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens E. I could continue toe. Quote that and quote that quote that and everything that I do because I was a believer. I have to believe that God is going to do what he says is so on point for when we're waiting, you know, it's it is very difficult to not be able to see. You know you can't see to the next way, but I guess there's a blessing and being in the hallway, I'm still in place. I'm just in the hallway. I can't see my way to the living room yet, but at least I'm in the right place. So it's a blessing doing that so trusting him that it will happen. And like you said, having faith just trusted. I mean, the dream can lum where it wasn't you. You didn't come up with it in your in and of yourself. He plays out, and I don't believe that he will order a meal that he can't pay for that. Come on now and you have to have a vision of the Bible also says rights of vision and make it plain. So you have to have a vision. You have to be able to see this happen before it happens. You know, when we were kids, when we were young and we you know and we play, make believe and and we sing in the mirror These are all visions that are clear, and as we get all the other things start to come in to our lives. That sort of blocked those visions. You know you have working of Children, have bills, but you have to be able to take that, use us in your heart and be able to see that vision before it even happens. You have to just don't give up. Don't stop working the dream is there. God is sometimes, I guess, hearing it from people that have gotten to a certain place or at least begin to taste. What they desire is a dream hearing, you say that really does help a listener in the process. So I thank you for sharing that also, but you mentioned a project. We want to know how we can support you in the project. When does the album come out. Tell us about it. How can they follow you so they can follow the project? And then maybe when you when you are ready to release the project, maybe we can help Do that as well. Maybe bring you back that you can talk about. Just This is my my baby. Like I've worked on this album for a month Blood, sweat and tears Off Putting into this project. The name of the album is called Closer. It will be released in April. Um, I'm hoping April 2nd I was gonna do April 1st, but I don't want people thinking that the April Fool's joke right by it. So I'm gonna put gonna push it faster. Of course, because you don't. Some people are spaces like that. Probably the first week of April is when I'll release the album. It really is the journey through relationship. So it starts off with the, um I'm dating you. I like you. This is cool kind of thing. And then as you journey through the relationship, you realize through through this record that you really like this person and and then there's a really special song. Ah, at the end of the last song on the record and it it called You saved me and it talks of This is a personal letter. My letter that I wrote to ah guy pretty much just saying, You know, you found me in a dark place and I was in a bad place and you came and you saved me. I wanted to say that for later, but it really is that something happened to me earlier on and before the music industry and all of that, and God came and saved me from that situation. So I had to write a song like that on my album. I had to put something like that on the record. It's a beautiful body of work, and I'm really I'm proud of myself. I'm excited. I'm nervous from all these things because I just know, regardless of what happens, I put my all in all you know into this project, and I'm really excited. You can find me on Instagram on Twitter on Facebook. I have a website. We're just a bunch of different platforms where it will be available, and I will probably put like snippet on Soundcloud For people here is really good music. It really is. And it's something there for everybody, for young Oh, you know, if you want to dance as a love song for you, Bull like I mean everything is is on his record, and it's been an amazing journey to record and just really be vulnerable and artistically speak my mind, cause before I was a background vocalist, I was artist First. I did a lot of song writing and vocal production is so I finally get to, you know, see this stuff into my own project. So I'm really excited about that. A man that that's exciting, though it really is it. Hopefully, life talks radio can play.
