friend, scholar and always a gentleman. Those air just a few of the words used to describe Louis Blanchard. Louis taught accounting at S AU from 1956 until he retired in 1998. Over his 42 year teaching career, Lewis influenced the lives of hundreds of students. But according to his wife, Martha Lewis never felt like he worked a day at S Au. Dr. Terry Stinson, former student at later colleague in the rink in College of Business, agrees. Louis loved his students and would do anything to help them succeed. A native of Mississippi, Lewis served in the Air Force in World War Two, providing meteorological support for both the European and Pacific war fronts. After serving his country, Lewis received his B B A in 1953 and his MBA and accounting in 1954. Louis began his career teaching at S. AU in 1956. However, it was a career that almost didn't happen. Louis love teaching and inspiring young business students. He had high academic standards, but his personal interest in his students was felt by many at S AU, which then foster numerous longstanding relationships. Very few places that he traveled later in life did he fail to encounter and recognize a former student? Lewis was selected by his peers as honor professor in 1989. After his retirement, Lewis continued to serve S. AU. He received the title of professor emeritus in 2001 and also served as interim president of the university and president of the foundation board in 2001. Lewis was the S. A U faculty athletic representative for 33 years. Perhaps his most important role with the university was an unofficial one that as an ambassador for S. A. U. Lewis was an active member of Central Baptist Church of Magnolia, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Lions Club for 62 years. Blanchard was also an avid golfer and accomplish something that most golfers find elusive. Ah, hole in one. The business building was named after Lewis in 2017 so his name will live on for generations of students. To come, however, has legacy of kindness. Gentlemanly nous and statesmanship will live on in the hearts of family, colleagues and friends
