this year, Snapchat wanted to give users more ways to celebrate Black History Month In the creativity that defines the Snapchat community. Snapshot is an artistic home for many talented black creators who used tools like augmented reality lenses to express themselves. Not every artist gets a gallery exhibition, and not every snap chatter goes to art shows. But on average, more than 70% of daily active users play with or view lenses every day. Through augmented reality, we could showcase black artists and bring snap chatters to an art gallery all at once. So Snapchat launched the first ever immersive, augmented reality art gallery to honor the work of contemporary black artists and celebrate the black history being made today. Throughout the month of February, snap chatters could take a Black History Month selfie by switching from the front facing camera to the rear facing snap shatters entered in art gallery, featuring vibrant multimedia paintings, photography and digital art from five rising artists, visitors explored each piece by moving closer to them in the physical world to the tune of a hip hop track. The art came to life in a new way that was accessible and engaging for the masses across the United States and Canada. Snapchat has spent more than 1.5 years interacting with the gallery, and the press took notice. This powerful initiative was completely spearheaded by snap NEWR Snapchats Black Employees Group to empower snap shatters from all backgrounds to tap into their own creativity and self expression, and it did.
