NBC News Radio. I'm Monica stein. President Obama is urging Congress to pass a middle class tax cut as part of a deal to head off the looming fiscal cliff. Speaking at the White House, the president called on republicans to send him a bill and if we can get a few House republicans to agree as well, I'll sign this bill as soon as Congress sends it my way, I got to repeat. I've got a pen. House speaker john Boehner says he's optimistic a deal will get done. This is not good for our country. It's as simple as that and the president understands it. And so, you know me, I was born with a glass half full. I'm an optimist. A factory fire in Bangladesh that killed 112 people has led to the arrest of three officials. There are reports that workers trying to escape the fire were locked inside. Records show that the factory produced clothing for walmart Disney Pixar and other western companies and new home sales for october were disappointing down 3/10 of a point to 368,000. This is NBC News Radio. Tonight's Powerball jackpot has reached $550 million. The second biggest prize in U. S. Lottery history. Over a billion dollars worth of tickets have already been sold for tonight's drawing. NBC's Andrea canning reports, $1 of every $2 powerball ticket goes to the state covering lottery overhead and supporting programs like education. The federal government also hits the jackpot, taking a quarter of the winner's earnings and taxes. And yes, there's more states and cities can take an additional 5 to 12% if there is a single winner after tonight's drawing, they would take home about $360 million after taxes. And an Ohio man has received a one month jail sentence for making fun of a 10 year old disabled girl. 43 year old William bailey pleaded no contest on Tuesday to charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated menacing.
