Description

This is the short clip used by Audible on their website to promote "Out of the Blue," the second Katherine Deauxville novel I narrated. The plot centered around an alien who becomes trapped in the body of a woman on Earth, and the misadventures they get into as he tries to find out how he got there and how to get back out. In addition to having the most number of voices in any of the books I've read so far, I felt that the main character, Ur-Targon, needed a particular type of voice that captured his pomposity, self-confidence, and generally over-zealous attitude. I modeled him somewhat after the character Zapp Brannigan from "Futurama," who in turn was actually modeled on Captain James Kirk (or, more specifically, William Shatner), but I tried to give him his own personality and his own concept of savoir-faire. Other characters were modeled after quintessential sci-fi/fantasy roles like Spock, Dr. Strangelove, and Fox Mulder, to name just a few, to keep with the pastiche nature of this romantic comedy.
