the proximity alert on the generational ship odyssey blared Greg A's eyes blasted open. He stumbled out of bed. If you can stumble in 0G. He dashed away to the nearest command station to end the blaring siren, extending his left hand to the support beam to stop himself from crashing into the display screen. Red flash on the screen. He tapped in. The noise stopped, but his headache continued to pulse. He accessed the command module controls from the display. The odyssey was on an intercept course with an asteroid. five minutes to intercept. What was it doing all the way out here? Oh well. Better apply the maneuvering thrusters. He tapped the commands on the screen. He stared at the adjacent display to monitor the trajectory of the odyssey and its new adversary. The current intersection of the trajectories move further away. Come on now, he encouraged the maneuvering thrusters. You can do it. The thrusters fired hard, left the nuclear reactor powering their propulsive power. The trajectories of the two objects drifted further apart, the intersection point on the display disappeared. Nice job thrusters! His encouragement had worked, the thrusters did their job. The odyssey was safe from danger and he could go back to sleep. He floated back to his bed. He saw his android counterpart Greg be lying in the charging station adjacent to his own back to the wrong side of the bed. He shook his head. How did I end up with emergency duties next time you're handling and I'm taking maintenance duties. He swung around to climb back into the charging station. His back clicked into place with a soft tap and his eyes closed shut.
