the drive to work in window was always boring, bland and collars, except for those green eyes fixed on hiss. Simon had seen her before, always in the same place and always seeming to stare out of him. Has he passed by the side of the booth? She used to have a thumb out trying to hitch a ride into town. But lately she just seemed to stand there limply, staring at traffic, always in the same spot, noticed never further up the road, and she was always gone on his drive home. Someone always picked her up here. I guess it amazing that people still picked up Hitchhikers. Surely the days of friendly wanderers were over, and if you watch the news, it made it clear you couldn't trust anyone. She wore a blue denim jacket faded, but that was the style he guessed she was looking for. Truth be told, the only thing about her that had really stuck with him with those eyes a piercing green that would make any man look twice there was similar to an American actress. He couldn't remember the name she'd be in in a comedy. Jim Carrey on was in some TV show he'd seen advertised on Channel four hadn't gotten around to see her face wasn't remarkably pretty A rather plain, an average, but those eyes made her beautiful. He had considered stopping for her once a long time ago, but must have decided other life. Men picking up women by the side of the road never looked good. Not that his wife would complain because he didn't have one. Truth be told, there hadn't been a steady woman in his life. For a while, it seemed like his luck with women was a little hitch hiking, too. You stand at the side of the road, and occasionally you get picked up. But eventually the ride ends and you end up back at the road side, usually a little worse for wear in some minute ways.
