During the preliminary trial exercises for the Apollo missions, the astronauts from NASA trained on Navajo land. During one of these exercises, they were met by an elder and his grandson. The older could not speak English and only spoke Navajo, so his grandson translated the exchange between NASA and the older. The older asked, Why are these men and funny costumes here on Navajo land? The NASA man replied that they were preparing for a trip to the moon. Excited by this news, the older asked if he could give them a message to pass on to the people of the moon should they happen to meet. So the NASA guys scrambled for a tape recorder, and the elder muttered something in Navajo into the device. No one on the reservation would cooperatively translate, so they had to wait to take it back to the wind talkers who were responsible for encrypting our battle talks during the wars into Native American languages, the message said. Clearly, watch out for these men. They've come to take your land away
