a fractal is considered a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which, at least approximately is a reduced size copy of the whole. Because they reveal new detail, no matter how far you zoom in, fractals are considered to be infinitely complex. Of course, a fractal is an idea, but some natural objects approximate fractals. They include clouds, mountain ranges, lightning bolts, coastlines, snowflakes, various vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli, an animal coloration patterns. Because of a fractals infinite complexity, you could say that it has unlimited surface area, all contained in one tiny space.
