For nearly 60 years I have been practising aikido, a Japanese form of self defence. My initiation to the practise came when I was 11 years old and begin my study under Hero Shihan, my first sensor teacher. He was an extraordinary sensor and I will tell you much about him throughout the book. Two years before I started practising aikido. My grandfather ignited my interest in it when he took me to a demonstration by Ik Does founder Marie Hey, we Sheba all sense a venerable teacher, the founder of Aikido. This incident was a matter of fate. I was the eldest grandson and through heredity marked to succeed him after my father along with some family history and are summary routes. The focus of this chapter tells the story of my first encounter with O Sensei. He visited Harvey from 27 February to 11. April 1961. Oh, since I made this unusual trip to bless the grand opening of the Hawaii IK headquarters dojo in Honolulu on 11 March 1961 all since they gave the public demonstration in Honolulu at the McKinley High School auditorium. Now I know that at nine years old, I was lucky even to be there as the demonstration was by invitation only, Grandfather received and accepted the invitation. He may have thought it would be interesting to see what a septuagenarian martial artist from Japan could do. In any case, Grandfather took me with him even though I was too young to appreciate what I was about to see. Still through happy connections. There I was, sitting next to my grandfather just a few yards from all sansei fortunate connections. Because my grandfather was the bishop in the area. He had a lot of relationships the Temple congregation, government leaders and the population in general. However, for the demonstration event, the most important connection was with all senses himself. Although all sensitive followed Shinto, the ownership of a family ties were originally Schengen. My grandfather and my father were ordained Schengen priests. Importantly, all sensor and grandfather shared a belief in Japan's revitalization after World War Two. All since spread aikido s philosophy of love and harmony, and grandfather increased the Japanese communities through supporting their spiritual lives with much the same message. Who knows? They may have even had conversations about how to get Japan on her feet and how to motivate people to do so. The connections were no accident or coincidence, Most likely Oh, since I was the one to put my grandfather on the guest list for the demonstration. Now I believe that I was at the demonstration because of these real connections and not due to any coincidence, a long line of priests and community connections. I didn't realise it at the time, but are okay more. A family had a certain amount of visibility because our history in the priesthood was long and integrated into the community. Sometime in the past, it is thought one of our samarai ancestors was a senior retainer reporting to the DeMeo of a domain. It seems the DeMeo wanted spiritual guidance. And so he assigned one of my samarai ancestors to go to study Buddhism at Chiasson Monastery in Wakayama Prefecture. We're all sensitive was born
