to understand equitable fairness we needed to find equal and fair equal is when everyone gets the same thing, the same slice of pie, regardless of need. Imagine there are three people who need to see over a fence toe watch a ball game. If we were being equal, we would give each person the same solution in this case. Ah, box to stand on to see over the fence. Here's what that would look like Not quite right, is it? If we look at what fair is, it's that everyone gets what they need or deserve. In this case, the tallest person can see over the fence just fine so they don't need a box. Instead, the three boxes air distributed in a way that each person can comfortably see the game. Not everyone got the same thing, but everyone got what they needed. It was fair and gave everyone equal access to watch the game. How does this translate to the workplace? Being fair explicitly takes into account a person's education, literacy level, geographic location, socioeconomic status, family status, ethnicity, creed, culture, gender, sexual and gender orientation, disability and language. Let's pick two of these and look a scenario. Let's say interviews for a job opening are being offered at pre scheduled time slots. One person lives remotely and relies on public transportation, so cannot make a 7 a.m. interview another. As childcare conflicts and can't make the a lot of time in these cases, they may be granted a request for a different time when others or not. Let's consider that another word for fair is reasonable. If you ask yourself is something reasonable, considering the circumstances were, would a reasonable person do this? And the answer is yes, then it likely is fair. In that case, for these two examples, we can determine that it was reasonable and fair to accommodate those who needed it so that everyone had an equal opportunity to attend an interview. We all want to give and be given a fair shot at workplace opportunities and successes. This is why it's important to understand the concept of equitable fairness and the steps we try to take to ensure everyone is treated fairly
