mm hmm. Dark Moon Press in association with bare bones, audio presents vampires, world history, written by er verner and narrated by CJ grim preface, my fascination with the vampire and indeed all things dark and terrifying. Started at a very young age while reading the likes of Bram stoker's dracula, mary Shelley's Frankenstein and collected works of Edgar Allan Poe. The foreboding castles that loomed high and imposing were not only highly intimidating but fascinating to me as I could picture myself walking inside one Becoming one with the supernatural inhabitants, the stories of old described. Unlike many Children my age, I was enthralled and fell in love with the visuals that I felt even more interesting than the stories behind the books and films. I recall envisioning one day owning a home for myself that Bruce wayne of the batman comics or Viktor in Underworld would be at home. In my love of all things Gothic and haunted became even more pronounced when I encountered the music of nox Arcana by joseph Vargo and the group type O negative. The book goth chic by Gavin Baddeley and other similar bands and authors. During this time frame, I was doing various research papers for school and always seemed to find a way to twist the assignment in my favor to write about the themes. Indeed, my first ever oral book report was on dracula conducted completely from years old memory. So ingrained in me was the story and theme of the genre I myself was passionate about and one such was an architecture in the art history class, the Gothic and Baroque styles of old europe led me to other books and websites and I took note of them as an avid reader and painter. I always loved fantasy and science fiction, but also comic books and horror, especially vampires and zombies. So much so that I nearly got a job at White Wolf, the makers of vampire, the masquerade role playing game. It was at a game convention in Indianapolis that I met with the art director and showed my portfolio, although the director loved the strong use of a central figure in the works and praised the details work for hire at the corporation was not in the cards life and other projects came and went. So the second portfolio never was completed or submitted. It was also here at the after party. I went to enjoy the gothic metal band called earn who happened to be featuring a guest vocalist and author Michelle Belanger. Not only did she provide me with an interview for my first book, which had a chapter on living vampires, she and I grew close over the years discussing vampire folklore and writing in general, I'll never forget attending Dragon Con years ago and Michelle coaxing me onto the stage to join a panel on vampires. I was afraid to be the little fish in the pond. As I seated myself between her and Rosemary, Ellen Gilly here I was facing several 100 fans and I'd down the table by my prolific colleagues in the field, all of whom were world famous experts on the subject. These experts whom I looked up to all became repeat fellow panelists as the years went by on panels on and rice Bram stoker and others. So much so that I asked Rosemary to provide an introduction and clay to do the edits as he was an editor with a masters in english as well as a lifelong fan of the topic As I was not satisfied with the rushed job and heavy reduction on my writing. When Schiffer Publishing requested that I write a similar book on this topic in less than six months and cut it down to a mere 180 pages. I knew there was much more that I wanted to say as I did more research and became friends with Bram stoker's descendant, the author dr stoker, I knew I had to re polish my older book's contents and add to them. So what you now hold in your hands or are listening to is my magnum opus as they say, two decades of research into the shadowy world of the undead. Come with me as we walk through the mists of the shrouded past of the vampire of yesterday and stroll forward in time as this ageless archetype evolves along with us
