How does the world remain informed Every day around the globe, thousands of events that impact people's lives take place. It is a journalist responsibility to keep the public informed about developments such as earthquakes, wars and sporting matches. Each day, citizens of the world industries and nations dependent new stories to gain knowledge and make informed decisions. Those who report the news must either adapt to these changes or run the risk of becoming obsolete. As journalism developed to include a variety of media such as radio and television, so did the rules and standards that regulate the industry. In the United States, journalists worked under a clear and definite set of guidelines, as outlined by famous newspaper editor Bill Kovak in his book The Elements of Journalism.
