have you ever noticed that you seem to find the same kind of food on your plate all the time? If you are in Taiwan, China, Japan or any other Asian country, you will most likely be eating rice. Almost every meal in South America, North America and most of Europe. There will almost always be something made out of wheat or corn. The's basic foods, eaten once or more a day, are known as staple foods or just staples. Thes staples are the main source of energy for most people all over the world. Rice, corn and wheat make up over 66% of the world's food. Staples, vary in different countries and are chosen for several reasons. The first reason is that staples are usually very cheap, with many people in the world still very poor. Staples may be the only kind of food they can afford to buy. Think about it. What costs more? Ah, whole chicken or a pound of rice? Rice alone feeds half the world. Another reason is that staples are usually foods that we can store away for a long time. In winter months, when it is too cold to grow food, or when a drought comes and there is no rain, people can eat the staples that they had. Beene saving meat, fruit and vegetables cannot last a very long time on their own, but things like wheat, rice and corn can last for months before they go bad. The most widely produced stable is corn. Rice is the second most prone staple crop, and weed is the third. While many people eat corn and rice in their normal state, wheat is usually used to make breads and pastas. It is also used to make crackers, cakes, pies, cookies, biscuits and pancakes. Weight is not only a popular staple for people to eat, but it is also very popular for feeding to animals that we eat too, like pigs and cows.
