why monsters are like snowflakes. Written by Mira Baron, narrated by Charlotte Cunningham. Hi, I am a monster. My name is Charlie, but the rest of the monster's Call me Arleigh Why they do this. I've never quite known my family's batty right down to the bone. They all have funny names just like me. There are many kinds of monsters to be from the spice ease that titter and nip at your toes and hide everything special right under your nose to the guy nor Mantz that drink from the garden hose and the tongue Tums that where all the funniest glows They live near the warbles who are noisy and Harry across from the shifters who are growly and scary. We live by the pond next to the tall trees We, my mom, Dad, my brothers and me for that is where bobbles live. You see with three eyes, webbed feet and ears like a bat. But I cover my short spikey hair with a hat. My family is big and loud and vast, and the truth is, I'm rather a kind of outcast. There aren't very many monsters like me. I sing on pitch while facing off key. They like the mud. I like to be clean while I sparkle and shine their slimy and green. They like toe roar and howl and hiss. I hug and I pounce and I never miss. But one thing they all love the best is the snow and the sunlight that seems to set it a glow. They'll stand out on their lawns as the flurries fall down and watch as they cover the world on the ground. I watched them have fun as I stand by the door, feeling even more different than ever before. I don't like the cold, and I don't like the mud. I don't like loud noise or three day old spuds. Then my dad noticed me, and he came on by put his arm around me as we looked at the sky, and I guess I looked like I might cry. So then he said this as the snowflakes fell by. Now look up at the snow sun, catch one with your hand and you'll see what makes snowflakes so terribly grand. Each one is different in its shape and its size. Each one falls down from the same cloudy skies. You're very different from us. That is true. There's lots of things different from me than from you. But those odds and ends that make up you end me, make us the best monsters we can possibly be. So find your own path and make your own choices. Take a lots of baths and speak in low voices. Go on lots of adventures to tropical shores and know that we love you the same as before. But at the end of the day, think about the snow and know that we're looking up wherever you go and watching that very same sekai as we grow because we're never really done growing, you know? So now I love Snow and my loud, messy clan, and I know that they're with me wherever I am. And no matter how much different I feel in my heart, I think about snowflakes whenever we're apart. Because just like snowflakes were all works of art
