As I mentioned in the introduction, but maybe you missed it. My name is Melody Maxwell. I was born on July 4th, 1958 to Ross and Julia Maxwell. It was a warm summer's day. At least that's what my mommy told me. My father was an air force test pilot and my mother had her own flower shop from 1952 until I was born. She quickly realized that she couldn't maintain my care and run her flower shop. So she sold the business to a very wealthy real estate tycoon, Laura Stevenson. This broke her heart and it was something she always blamed me for. I was born in the early morning of July 4th. So I've been told around 5 30 in the morning to be exact. I was a healthy caramel colored baby. That fact alone caused a rift in my parents' relationship. Why would this matter? You ask? Well, both of my parents were white so you could tell something was not right. When I came out, you little *****, you cheated on me again, didn't you, Julia? My mother swore up and down that she didn't cheat on my father. I looked nothing like my father, he was furious. And even though I was too young to understand, I wouldn't blame him. I would be furious too if I found out that my wife had been cheating on me when she brought me home. She finally admitted to my dad that she had cheated on him with one of his air force buddies, a black man by the name of Darren mckinley. I wasn't old enough to see my dad's face, but I can only imagine how stunned he was that my mother would sleep with one of his service buddies. Julia. I love you with all of my heart. However, I don't think there's a way we can work past this. You made your bed now you have to lie in it. Please, Ross. You have to consider. I love you. That was a mistake. We all make mistakes, don't we? Please give me one more chance. Darren meant nothing to me. I swear my dad pondered this for a while. He finally agreed to stay with my mother. They worked on their marriage and they seemed to be happy. My dad was dishonorably discharged from the air force for dissertation. They threatened to court martial him. But that never came to fruition. He took a job as an automobile mechanic at Lenny's Auto repair. My mother became a stay at home mom though. She didn't very much enjoy that stupid child ruined my plans for life. You see my mother was only 16 at the time of my birth, once her parents found out she was pregnant, they kicked her out of their house and she went to live with my father and his family. My father was 24 years old. Yes. My dad kind of robbed the grad a little, little bit. But if you're thinking, wait a minute, you said she owned her own flower shop. How is that possible at the age of 16? Well, allow me to explain her grandfather. My great grandfather passed away in 1952 and he left the store to my mother as her inheritance. That's right. My mother was only 11 when she started running my grandfather's business.
