As the brilliant writer James baldwin said not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced. America. We need to face our history, the good, the bad and the ugly, so that we can move toward being a more perfect union and being honest with our Children is a good start. Our Children need to learn accountability, critical thinking skills and an accounting of history told from multiple perspectives and every child should feel valued and affirmed at school, which includes seeing themselves reflected in the curricula prohibiting teaching. An accurate american history accomplishes none of that. I want all people in perspectives represented because I have seen how literature with representation of people of different backgrounds has deepened my own Children's understanding of the world around them. We live in this community together. Let's stay curious and try to understand our past so that we can make a better future.
