Where is the balance sheet is like a photo or snapshot of the numbers at a point in time, such as the end of a business period? Besides thes standard financial statements, there are many other calculations that can be done to analyse the performance of the business and compare it to others. For example, ratios such as profit divided by sales or debt divided by equity, return on investment or break even point, answering questions such as how the business compares to others, whether it is a good bet on when it will be profitable. If that all seemed a bit abstract, don't worry. We'll kick off by bringing things to life with an example, and then later we'll see how everything fits into the process.
