In 18 25 a group of british sailors in Oahu thought they were seeing diamonds on the side of a volcanic crater. They named the area Diamond Hill, even though those diamonds turned out to be volcanic calcite crystals in the sand. Today we know that crater as Diamondhead. Diamondhead sits on the southeastern edge of Oahu and is one of the aisle Most recognized landmarks known for its historic hiking trails, stunning coastal views and military history. Diamondhead encompasses a total of over 475 acres. The crater formed about 300,000 years ago, but most of the vegetation and wildlife you see today were introduced in just the last 200 years.
