a house beside the Sea by Michael Renner to my mother in a house beside the sea, amid the cool and salty breeze in the shade of a swinging palm tree, she lies at rest at ease. A whiff of Brian tickles her nose, and she shifts in her repose, relaxed from head to toes. Not a care in the world, she knows a gentle crash of waves and the odd goal passing a pace. What sounds could quicker pave the road to her happy place, but rest forever? She cannot, though, to worry and care. She lends. No thought though she might. It were her lot to spend what time that she has got. But as the Waves march ever on so unfairly, drive carries her toward places her feet have never gone. Running forward ever forward. In quiet strength, she sits among the greats heard oft in book or song. Who could say once her they met would rather her joy they could forget
