Description

Laksamana Keumalahayati: Sang Perempuan Keumala' is a biographical novel written by Endang Moerdopo. This is the life story of an Acehnese heroine, Admiral Malahayati of Aceh Darussalam Kingdom in Aceh (16th century).

What I read in this sample is the part when Malahayati lost his beloved husband, Tuanku Mahmudin who died in a battle at Teluk Haru. Their only one daughter then was kidnapped by a royal functionary as a part of the political intrigue to take control the Sultanate and defeat all people who choose to remain loyal to Sultan. Malahayati was the first person who was attacked by the traitors, both in her personal and professional life. Losing almost everything in her life made her desperate -- and this is what I read in this sample (the time when she was crying for her bad luck).

Finally, Malahayati was aware that the condition of Sultanate was getting worse and worse. She then formed the Inong Balee, her troops that were drawn from the widows to defend the Sultanate.
