we were tired of being shut out Way were tired of the same old boys club winning elections way were tired of knowing that there weren't enough women willing to run. So we did something about it in 2000 to a group of women in California knew that if women were going to reach a tipping point in elected office, they could support them with training. And it worked. You see, steadily state by state, women joined together to recruit and train women candidates who would shatter the status quo, and the emerge network grew, and it looked like one woman would be able to shatter the most persistent glass ceiling. I know, I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but someday someone will and hopefully sooner than we might think right now. But women would not give up. Women would not quit. They did something. They ran for office and they won. Well, this is incredible. We've never had a Democrat in the seat. We also don't have any women doctors in Congress until right now. There's lots of hope because women are getting things done. In 2017 emerged women flipped a historic number of seats in the Virginia Legislature and then in 2019 turned it from red to blue, and one win became a tidal wave. These states all have one thing in common emerge today. More emerged women hold elected office than ever before Emerged has trained more than 4000 candidates in 45 states or territories on elected 2000 candidates, 740 of whom currently hold office. 15 years later, the country is changing and emerge is changing with it. Our communities will be younger and more diverse. Our democracy will reflect our nation. Black, indigenous, Asian women. Lotina's immigrants L G B T Q Plus. Women must have a seat at the table. Young women, unmarried women, moms, veterans. They are the new American majority because when women win, we all win.
