Each year, 235 million people are affected by humanitarian disasters. One of five people exposed to war and political violence are likely to experience a mental health condition. Yet most people around the world do not have access to adequate mental health care. Fortunately, there is growing evidence that psychological and psychosocial interventions are effective to treat and prevent many mental health conditions. These interventions can even be delivered successfully by people who are not mental health specialists, ensuring appropriate training and supervision is the key to safely delivering these interventions.
