Rebecca lee, the goal of mindful breathing is simply defined, calm, non judging awareness, allowing thoughts and feelings to come and go without getting caught up in them, setting aside the past and not worrying about the future. Just being here, now, sitting in a dignified posture in a way that allows you to feel relaxed and alert. Sitting with a straight spine, shoulders, relaxed, neck, long jaw soft, perhaps imagining a string from the crown of your head that's gently being tugged towards the ceiling, closing your eyes or nearly closing them and resting your hands gently in your lap, dropping into your body and allowing yourself to become still and now beginning to notice the movement of your breath as it comes in and goes out of your body, noticing any feelings in your body that go along with your breathing. Perhaps the rising and falling of your belly as it expands on the in breath and contracts on the out breath, just being here completely in each moment with each breath, not trying to get anywhere or do anything simply being with your breath experiencing fully each in breath and each out breath as they follow one another in a natural flow. Not trying to control your breathing or to feel a particular way, just allowing your breath to be what it is at its natural rhythm and paying attention.
