she's out of control. In 1986 I sold in amusing little script called Daddy's Little Girl to a new company formed by successful producer Jerry Weintraub. The movie centered on a single fathers befuddlement at the sudden blossoming of his daughter, a subject matter which I found endearing and new. I would eventually face myself without going into all the details. The film, which starred Tony Danza and Catherine Hicks, was released in 1988 after being re titled She's Out of Control. An adorable young girl named Amy Dolan's daughter of famous monkey Micky Dolenz played the lead. The script called for her to have a boyfriend. A kid described in the script is being so obnoxious that the father wanted to kill him. When we auditioned young actors for the part, one stood out above the rest as just about the most obnoxious kid any of us had ever met. In fact, the director standard, Gotti was so put off by the kids antics that he wanted to throw him out of the audition. For some reason, I kind of intuited what the kid was doing and thought that if I was right, the kid had big time courage. My sense was that he had come into the audition as he obnoxious character that the script called for and had stayed in character the whole time. Jane Seymour had come to the Somewhere in Time Audition as her character ELISA McKenny, and remained in character the whole time that worked. Why not this? I thought that the kid was brave and wonderful, convinced. Stand to give him a chance, and we hired him. Even on the set, he managed to stay in character and find a way to annoy just about everyone. But I was on to him, and he knew it. I even confronted him one day with my convictions about his behavior. After a few such encounters, he one day just winked at me, and that was that. He did a great job in a small part, and Matthew Perry later went on to become quite a star when he joined some other great friends
