I'm bored, Claudia announces, her voice flat. She stares out over the heads of the girls in front of us. Then Janz, as if proving her point, Principal Wilson introduces Coach Coal, and then coach Coal introduces the football players and Mitchell Wilson and all the other boys trot out in their genes and football jerseys over their shirts. And Emma Greenwood and the other Creamsicle girls do backflips, and the pep band exhibits Pep and Claudia Janz again. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to live in a town that doesn't revolve around 17 year old boys who get laid way too often. Just because they know how to throw a football. Life was going along okay when my mother and father dropped the news boom. Just like that. We have something wonderful to tell you, Peter, Mom said. Before dinner, she was slicing carrots into the salad bowl. I grabbed one. What is it? I asked. I figured maybe my father has been made president of the company. Or maybe my teacher phoned, saying that even though I don't get the best grades in the fifth grade, I am definitely the smartest kid in the class We're going to have a baby, Mom said. We're going toe What? I asked. Starting to choke. Dad had to whack me on the back. Tiny pieces of chewed up carrot flew out of my mouth and hit the counter. Mom wiped them up with a sponge. Have a baby, Dad said. You mean you're pregnant? I asked Mom. That's right, she told me, patting her middle. Almost four months. Four months. You've known for four months and you didn't tell me. We wanted to be sure. Dad said it took you four months to be sure. Can anyone see us? Maya asked when she had regained her balance, her words blurred by the blade, still held by her teeth of a DNA, glanced around the grove. They were at the thick heart of it. The grass was spangled with light and the branches rustled with the breeze. We are alone, Maya, Maya, cut the branch and let it drop to the ground right out of a Chinese feet. She cut another, her knife taking against the bark. Do you think your father will know, Eva, that we cut from the God tree? A botany gathered the green and silver leaves staring up is my a balanced on the trees, warped limbs. She imagined a god tumbling through such branches, breaking his wings and said, Well, if my father realizes it, I will simply tell him it was all for Halcyon. And what can he say to that? The origin of yoga is a Sanskrit word yoke, meaning union Yoga is a union of the organ systems in the body, with the consciousness in the mind. Philosophically, yoga produces a union of body, mind and energy or solar spirit to bring about a state of equanimity. Calmness progressing toe uneven, more advanced state blending science and philosophy. One experiences a union of body mind, internal energy and the all pervading cosmic energy, resulting in better physical health, mental control and, ultimately, self realization.
