The objective of the stairway to happiness is to consider the way human beings achieve differing levels and intensity of happiness, why they don't always succeed and what they can do to overcome obstacles and create a powerful and happy future for themselves and those around them. The stairway to happiness is directed at all thinking human beings and is relevant to everyone. It has direct implications for Children making their first steps in life, as it has for adults of all ages. Parents, students, people working in every profession, senior executives, leaders of our communities, the unemployed and the retired. It is particularly appropriate for people who are wondering about their own mission in life, what they should do with their life, what future they really want and to what extent their life is a happy and fulfilled one, or if they need some help and assistance. At a time when we are frenetically rushing about trying to keep up and feeling that we are overwhelmingly lost, we seem to have little time to take stock, and yet it is precisely at such times that we need to do so. The issues raised here are common to everyone and it is simply the manner and intensity with which they manifest themselves. That differs just as the busy executive in the office needs to acquire the wisdom and skills to manage his life successfully and happily, so does the person at home not just for themselves, but more especially for others. In Part one, we explore the circumstances that create, nurture and promote happiness. The five key steps, as well as some of the potential dangers that lie in the way many of the situations described will be very familiar. In Part two, we explain how the mind works and some basic principles of cognitive psychology. We also describe and explain a number of techniques and methodologies that can be learned and successfully deployed to overcome the problems as they occur at each stage of the journey. As in all matters regarding successful outcomes, it is ultimately each person's own desire to learn and achieve change that dictates whether and to what extent they will succeed. While the stairway to happiness will provide a guide and instructions, it is up to each person to decide to make the necessary effort. It is only through personal desire, effort and determination that change can happen
