Hearing bands "playing the funk" in the 70's struck a chord with Cal Anderson (Nickname Kenny). At that moment, he knew he wanted to recreate that funky sound and was drawn heavily to the bass guitar! The only set back was...Cal did not have a bass guitar at the time nor did he know how to play one for that matter. However, that was only a minor deterrent. Cal constructed a make shift bass guitar out of old copper, a broom stick and some rubber bands.
He sat in his bedroom and listened repeatedly to records of all genres of music and practiced daily on his make shift bass guitar. After working two jobs and with the help of his mother, he purchased his first bass guitar...a G & L 1000. He began long practice sessions to further hone his skills and started playing gigs with a few local bands in the Toledo, Ohio area.
He later attended the University of Toledo and learned to play the upright bass. After playing in the Universisty's orchestra and jazz ensembles, Cal's musical journey led him to musical hotbeds such as Atlanta Georgia and Memphis Tennessee. He played gigs, wrote and produced everything including but not limited to Hip-Hop, R & B, Heavy Metal, Rock, Funk, Gospel, Blues & Country music. He also learned sound engineering and mixing techniques from former Motown producer Al Jones who he met in Atlanta. Additionally, he shared his musical passion with others by teaching bass guitar. Cal is a well rounded musician and songwriter who gives an A+ effort to every project he engages himself in.
