About Jon L. Rishel
Describe my voice? I don't think anybody's ever asked me to do that before. Mostly because it's hardly ever the same. Yes - it's basically a smooth, male baritone voice. But it's been used in syndicated comedy bits and advertising in loads of "situations": accents (southern, New England, mid-western, German, Irish, etc.); cartoon characters (Kermit, Yoda, et al); characters (hillbilly, New England Farmer, German "shrink", dockworker, befuddled senior and more).
I've been in the broadcast field since the 1980's, and own a digital multi-track audio production studio that’s been turning out radio spots, TV audio, and narration since 1987. Receiving scripts via e-mail, transmitting audio via internet .mp3 (or any number of other formats) and fast turn-around pose no problem.
For a number of years, I've been the narrator for Strategies magazine (a business publication, based in Connecticut), producing “special report” features on CD for mass duplication and distribution to their subscribers nationwide.
My production demo spotlights both my copy writing and voice characterization talents. All of the pieces in the demo (except the “Saratoga/Weather Channel” piece) are from spots I've written, and all of the voices in the multi-voice spots are either natural or computer-enhanced variations of my voice.
Additionally, I'm also a singer/songwriter. My music background was instrumental in the production of several song parodies for syndicated comedy.
For several years I have done freelance copywriting for area agencies, non-profit groups, colleges and others for radio and television ads, brochures, press releases and related materials.
Humor has been a large component in much of the advertising copy I’ve created, as well as the marketing materials I’ve developed. I believe that boring copy can’t elicit an impression of an exciting or fun product or service. By keeping the ad copy simple (avoiding the temptation to fill with it with jargon) I’m able to make the product or service appeal to the widest possible audience.
