Max has written, voiced, edited, and produced over 20,000 radio and tv spots in his 30+ years in broadcasting. Clients have included Seiko, Hertz, 3M, Ford, Budweiser, and many other national and local retailers. He also hosted a nationally syndicated talk show heard in over 75 major markets.
For many years Max has walked both sides of "entertainment boulevard". First as a successful broadcaster who's stations have won multiple industry awards for programming excellence. Second, as an effective label promotion executive, and also as a chronicler of events within the industry as an editor and writer for two different trade publications.
Currently Max is the head of his own independent consultancy, He is the Ex- Program Director of Indie 103.1 in Los Angeles, a station Rolling Stone magazine in May of 2008 named as the Best Rock Station in America in its Best Of Rock 2008 issue. Indie flipped to a Spanish language format in January of 09’. Max’s account of the demise of Indie was published in the Huffington Post.
Before that, WFNX in Boston dragged Max back for his second stint as Operations Manager and PD in October of 2004. Max’s first tenure at FNX ran from 1989 to 1994 where he delivered the station it’s highest ratings ever.
Previously, Max was the Alternative Editor for Radio & Records, the industry’s premier trade newspaper.
Highly regarded as one of the founding fathers of Alternative radio, Max was also the host of the now-defunct radio show Modern Rock Live, once heard in over 75 cities. Max also spent a year as Senior Director of Alternative Promotion for A&M Records.,.
Additionally, Max was the Alternative Editor for The Gavin Report. He also co-founded Mutant Promotions, a record promotion company serving the Alternative format. Prior to this, as mentioned above, Max was Operations Manager of Alternative powerhouse WFNX, Boston.
For most of the 80’s Max was the Program Director of 91X in San Diego. It was the period of the station’s highest ratings, generating 12+ shares in the sixes, placing the station regularly in the top 3 in market share. Unduplicated to this day.
I Max has also been a guest lecturer on radio and communications at Boston College, Brown University, Emerson, Tufts, and Wellsley College. He was also a consultant for Time Warner Music and created twelve volumes of music from the 80’s sold to insomniacs all over America in the early 90’s.
If pressed, Max will regale you with tales of his years on Madison Avenue creating ad campaigns for Seiko watches, Hertz, and 3M. Stranger than anything you’ll see on Mad Men.
Very flexible, cheerfully willing and able to take direction, will do as many takes as neccessary to get it right.
