in 1972 as they cleared the way for yet another addition to Wichita has ever expanding Wesley Medical Center Demolition crews uncovered a time capsule in a corner of the old building. Here was a glimpse into another time in place when the original Wesley Hospital and Nurses Training school first opened more than 1/2 a century before, in keeping with God's command to heal the sick. And in an effort to satisfy the need for a modern Protestant hospital between Kansas City and Denver, the Southwest Kansas Conference of the Methodist Church first opened Wesley in 1912 in a three story building at 11th and Saint Francis. With 30 beds, six doctors and 12 employees, including to our Ends and four student nurses. Westley soon became crowded at their meeting.
