Most of these malignancies were carcinomas. An estimated 50% of patients with a carcinoma will have progressive disease that involves a skeleton. At some point, it is paramount that the typical orthopedic specialist understands the principles of evaluating a patient who presents with the disease of unknown primary origin and to be able to assess fracture risk and make appropriate treatment recommendations. The most common primary carcinoma to metastasized to the skeleton include lung, breast, prostate hit me, thyroid and gastro intestinal tumors. Patient prognosis depends on the site of the primary tumor for patient, 40 years of age or older. With an aggressive skeletal lesion and no history of malignancy, the commission should be able to initiate the work of for disease of unknown primary origin after obtaining a detailed history and performing a comprehensive physical examination.
